Is it a good idea to speak with the police?
If the police are conducting a criminal investigation and they want to speak with you about the case, chances are that you are the prime suspect. While this may seem like an opportunity to tell clear your name, the investigating officer may not be interested in clearing you as a suspect. Rather, his true motivation may be to build a solid case against you. This is a very dangerous time for anyone charged with a crime or under investigation for a serious offense. The prosecutor will try to use any statements against you and even seemingly harmless statements may be twisted into damning evidence.
Never speak with the police without an attorney present. Instead, consult with an attorney from NIELSEN & BLY. We will evaluate your case and determine whether or not it is in your best interests to meet with law enforcement officers.

Can I be arrested without evidence of guilt?
An arrest is initiated if the police have probable cause to believe you committed a crime. Probable cause is a very low standard and is usually a fairly easy burden for the prosecutor or police to shoulder. However, while it is a low standard, some cases are dismissed for lack of probable cause to believe a person committed a crime. The attorneys of NIELSEN & BLY are best suited to determine whether an arrest was initiated without probable cause or the complaint against you is without merit.
